4th International Grenache contest

5 February 2016 @ 8 h 00 min - 18 h 00 min

Results of the 4th International Grenache Contest are now available. This year again, Roussillon producers take home a nice amount of medals:

  • Over the 73 presented Roussillon samples, a total of 38 were awarded: 17 with a gold medal, 19 received silver and 2 bronze medals.
  • Both types of Roussillon wines contributed their share to the region’s victory: Roussillon Fortified Sweet Wines won 24 medals and Dry Wines got 14 medals.

Launched by the Conseil Interprofessionnel des Vins du Roussillon (Roussillon Wines Council) in 2013 as a way to promote Geographic Indication wines (AOP & IGP) containing at least 60% of Grenache grape variety, the international Grenache contest has become the major event for Grenache wines worldwide. This year for the first time, the contest travelled to Saragossa, Spain.
The contest representativeness has improved over the years: from 365 samples in 2013 and 7 participating countries to 485 samples and 6 participating countries in 2015. This year no less than 576 samples coming from 6 countries were will be competing!
