Wine advocate releasing rating of 130 wines from Roussillon with an average score rating of 89.5!
The Wine Advocate just conducted a cross-section tasting of the 2018s vintage and get a first look at the promising 2019s.
130 wines were tasted and rated in total, including PGI Côtes Catalanes, PDO Côtes du Roussillon, Côtes du Roussillon Villages and “communal”, Maury Sec, Collioure, Banyuls & Grand Cru, Muscat de Rivesaltes and Rivesaltes.
75 have obtained a rating ≥ 90, i.e. 58% of the wines. The PDO Côtes du Roussillon villages and “communal” PDOs take the lion’s share with 31 wines!
43 wines were rated ≥ 91, i.e. 33% of the wines.
The average score for this rating is 89.5!
According to Joe Czerwinski, “2018 is a vintage where the finished wines have turned out very well while the young, fresh 2019s […] generally showed ample color and fruit, with supple tannins and fine acidities to keep them lively and fun. They bode well for the more serious wines that will be released later this year and into next year.
