A Banyuls at Obama’s table in Paris

A Banyuls was the Sommelier’s pick for dessert for Barack Obama and Francois Hollande’s dinner on 30 November at L’Ambroisie, a 3-Michelin-starred restaurant in the heart of Paris’ famous Marais area. The 2 French Chefs, Mathieu and Bernard Pacaud, prepared a special meal celebrating France’s terroir with seasonal dishes for the two Presidents. The La Coume del Mas Galateo Banyuls 2013 was paired with a cocoa sablée tart. Sweet Fortified Wines and chocolate-based desserts is a classical pairing in French gastronomy.

Philippe Gard founded the La Coume del Mas domain in 2001. Today his Galateo wine represents about half of the 10,000 bottles produced yearly by the domain.

It is probably not the first time that the French President’s guests taste Roussillon wines in Paris as at least three domains of the region received orders from the Elysée to enter the Presidential Palace Cellar: Domaine Singla, Domaine Piquemal and more recently, Domaine Pierre Talayrach.
